In reply to: My other worry would be whether I could get a camping site near the Forks on such a busy weekend? Any ideas? Absolutely a NON ISSUE. You are camping on Kaibab National Forest. It is free 'dispersed' camping. There is a forest service road 1/4 mile south of the climbing parking lot that heads west. That road has tons of good sites on it. You can also pay to stay at White Horse, but why bother when the free places are so nice. You can get water at White Horse which is less than a mile down the road from the parking area.

You do know you'll need to slam in a few bolts on that V1 problem, right? Bob... bouldering...     Hillary, bring yer camera. This is gonna be classic.

In reply to: Holy Keerist, Curt... You do know you'll need to slam in a few bolts on that V1 problem, right? Ah-forgive them father for they do not know what they say. Reno, come and join us. I was bouldering hard when you were still watching Mr. Rogers. I also love high-ball problems. After following Curt, BVB and me around you might need to call the flight-for-life to save your ass? This is going to be fun. Your are going to be running with the big dogs now, just try and keep up and don't drag your'e paws.

Art, I totally know about gear going of with others. Last time I saw Ed, some biners of mine ended up in Arizona. He mailed them back, but sadly, the post office managed to loose them somewhere in San Bernadino! At least they weren't cams! I hate having to carry my #4, so I may be able to let you borrow it? The 3.5 may be needed at the Forks though. See ya in a week!

O.K. so it's offical, I'm in. I called all the places I work for and told them I'm not gonna be in town. So now it will be me, the mystery RC.comer, and two hot chicks. I'll be rollin in about midnight on Friday, and at that time I'll be making my special drinks that I made at New Years in J-tree. Oh and Ivan I still want to see you place a knot as pro. One side note: If I'm too hung over to climb I'll offer myself as an anchor. I'm great at being dead weight.

hey everyone - i'm off the fence and i'm 'fraid i can't make the gathering this year. ah the turbulence that led me to this - so much has changed, especially with work - since i booked my flight. i just can't make it. i can't afford the time for a trip, or the monetary costs incurred. i shall now flee with embarrassment from this thread. sorry guys, everyone have a good time and i'll try to meet you all some other time. :(

D'OH! I just saw the weather forecast. The guy on TV was walking back and forth with an umbrella saying... Tut Tut.... looks like rain! Does this mean a weekend sitting in tents fondling our... gear? Nah. I've climbed in the rain before. It just adds a grade or two  of difficulty. But just in case it REALLY opens up, someone bring a deck of cards so we can play a few rounds of bull$hit. In reply to: So who is camping at the forks ? Rick Rick, my plan is to camp at the Forks. I know there are plenty of places to climb in the area, but I'm mainly interested in the cracks. This is a bit easier than going to Wyoming, so I'm going to get my fill.

For those planning to camp at Fay Canyon, here is some additional beta. The exact distance from the Lake Mary Road exit off I-17 to the Fay Canyon turn-off is 3.2 miles. As previously noted, a cattle-guard crosses Lake Mary road at that point. Curt

Ford~ It does look like rain for Sunday and Monday (30%) but it always does this time of year, brutha. I believe it did this last time too. It may rain for an hour or two in some spots, but then it usually clears up. No worries!!! ~Erica

Well, the rain isn't usually horrible, and if anything, the clouds are a nice big natural softbox. I just need to remember to bring my rain gear, cos last time I got caught in the rain at the Forks... well, that was kinda horrible. The hail sucked too. I don't remember how to play bullshiznit. I last played in high school, which WAS a few years ago! (but Curt's cheap scotch is still older) 5 more days!!!!!!!!

OK, so who is doing what--and when? Team Geritol (BobD, BVB and myself) are going bouldering Saturday. This is most likely going to involve the old "Bob Murray" bouldering areas around the base of Mt. Elden. If anybody else is interested in coming along, just let us know and we'll be happy to show you around. Oh and Verm is in Phoenix and coming over to my house for dinner tonight, so he will probably be around for the Flag shindig too. 8^) Curt

I'm planning to be in Flagstaff with the family over the Labor Day weekend. I'd like to hook up with somebody going to the 3rd AZ Gathering that can give me a ride from town out to the Forks on Sunday (9/5/04)... Larry D

Curt, I did a Bob Murray toprope on Lemmon yesterday. I hurt now. So that's the closest I'm getting there ;) Is Team Geritol going to the Forks on Sunday, then? I, for one, vote for the following Hillary Schedule (which can be influenced, of course, by Jay and Alex :P ) Saturday: The Pit. I should consider getting my very own Mr. Slate roof shot! Sunday: The Forks. My camera is quivering with anticipation (dammit, Jay, you wanna go to the Forks, right?! ) Monday: anybody else gonna be around, at least for the beginning of the day? I still wanna climb some rocks, assuming they're dry 8^) Lotsa fine rooves at the Draw to flail on...
