I've been climbing for about a year now and consider climbing a large part of my life. However, every time I tell a girl that I'm a climber, they usually respond with a "yeah, that's cool" and then go on to talk about themselves and what-not. Do girls not consider climbers to be badass enough to get with? I guarantee you that if I told a girl that I ride a crotch rocket they'd instantly become wet with anticipation. Anyone else experienced this sort of situation?

If you told me you rode a ....crotch rocket... I would be very embarrassed for you and politely excuse myself. Bjut that's just me.

Chances are, if you're not finding the girls show any intrigue, it's got nothing to do with climbing. If you're saying you climb, like in the way insecure guys drop numbers about their salary or job title(or whatever) then....well, what do you expect? You're probably coming off as using it to impress them.

But to answer your OP query(Do girls like climbers?): The answer is: It depends.

On the plus side most climbers have great abs and get their shirts off often enough for you to enjoy the view.
On the minus side they seem to be a bit obsessive about climbing and never spend time with their girlfriends, and never talk about anything else.
Most the climbers I know are freaks....luckily i kind of enjoy that.

Here's some advice:

1. Buy a crotch rocket.
2. Listen to them talk about themselves.

or

3. Find a prostitute.

yeah, if you climb thin finger cracks with big bros, you are definitely badass.

that said, the original poster sounds like he took up climbing in order to get chicks (which is always a bad idea), and now he is disappointed that it does not get him bar-fly cred.

It is directly proportional to the size of your rack. The bigger the rack, the more attention you will get from females. This is a scientific fact, corroborated by plentiful empirical evidence.

However, the rack must be present on your person AT ALL TIMES. This is the most overlooked part of the process. If you're not in immediate possession of your rack, females will rarely speak to you (as you've noticed by their "yeah, that's cool" remarks, in an effort to get the fuck away from you). I understand that carrying a rack of significant size (it must be a full trad rack, including the full array of passive gear [don't forget hexes]) is difficult, especially in a bar/social setting. To remedy this, you might want to think about a container of some kind. You can try something like the BD Boa (http://www.bdel.com/gear/boa.php).

The quality of your rack is important as well. No female will give you the time of day unless you're sporting a full BD rack. It is not advisable to buy off-brand equipment, even if it makes perfect fiscal sense. You want to spring for the top of the line to maximize your chances with the opposite sex. Spend a considerable amount of time making sure that your rack is polished and shiny. Consider investing in some sort of waxing agent to really bring out the shine of the Camalots.

Finally, and I think someone brought this up earlier, make sure to take your shirt off often. However, this alone is not enough. You must make constant remarks how your back is ripped, and how pumped your forearms are after that sick .13a onsight. Relax, I know you can't climb harder than 5.9, this is not relevant. It is important to greatly exaggerate your ability. Besides, the difference between 5.9 and 5.13 is only 4, that's not much at all. It is completely believable, just don't get carried away (5.14 onsight is considered carried away).

While all of that will get you incredible female attention, don't forget to augment your efforts by completely fabricating some sort of an epic adventure story. Make sure it follows the standard scenario:

1. You set out on a simple climbing trip.
2. You and your partner find yourself in a predicament (rope getting stuck, ran out of water, attacking lions, etc.)
3. You perform a heroic feat (cut yourself and let your partner drink your blood for hydration, for example)
4. You fight off a monster and use its sinew to make a new rope to rappel to safety, and therefore save the day.

These factors individually do not make much of a difference, but when combined they will improve your female situation drastically. Please report back with your experience after sufficient time spent in the field with these new modifications to your female hunting arsenal.

In addition, I would like to add that you must be ready to camp at any given moment. Not only should you carry your entire rack at all times, but also a bivy kit that's only big enough for one person (but could fit 2 in a pinch). This bivy kit must always be with you. Chicks dig a prepared man. Also spend LOTS of time talking about your nuts. Most girls will think this is a reference to your testicles, but that's ok. Play it up. And cuss a lot. Chicks dig dirty mouths. If none of this works, try the direct approach. here's a sample:

you: "Hey, want to see my nuts? I'm a climber. [cuss word]"
her: "what?"
you: "Yeah, [cuss word] I've got a full rack."
her: "you've got a rack?"
you: "[cuss word] Oh, I mean can I see your rack?"
her: "no."
you: "I've got a bivy kit you know..."
her: "seriously, shut up. I'm sick of your spray."
you: "yeah, and I can bivy anywhere. In fact this one time, on this one super [cuss word] sick epic [blah blah blah] and then the rope got stuck and [blah blah blah] and we were out of gear so I had to sling the bolts on the sport climb next to the [cuss word] super hard boulder problem I was working [blah blah blah] and we had to bivy. [cuss word]"
her: {she's already gone}
you: {Turning to her not as hot friend} "Hey, want to give me sex?"
her friend: "Hell no."

See? Works every time!

hosh.

if by climber you mean someone who is selfish, dirty, go away for undefined periods of time to places they've never heard of, have rough, dry, nasty hands, talk about climbing all the time, think going climbing makes for a good date, holds a job just to pay for gear and "life goals" translate to projects...then maybe.
how the hell would i know?

yeah, ALL girls are shallow... I'm sure you're getting laid on a regular basis.

I personally LOVE climbers, but that's mainly because, when dating, i like to find guys with whom I have common interests. Maybe you're looking in the wrong places. If you want a shallow girl who wears a lot of make-up, has soft hands, wears high heels and likes to go out to fancy dinners, you probably need to sell your rack, get you a job at a bank and go find your trophy lady...

However if you're looking for a chick who will spend a week in a tent, can cook a gourmet meal with a Pocket Rocket, and probably out maneuver your ass on the crag... then (assuming you're not just saying you're a climber in hopes of getting in her pants) the fact that you are a climber is more likely going to be a turn on.

That being said... climber or no... girls tend to like the person overall, not just what they do... so don't be a pompous ass and you should be just fine.

To interject some seriousness here.

I have been making a concerted effort to only chase non-climbing women the last several months. While nothing has "stuck" just yet, I will say that I've enjoyed the dates, the company, and the conversation of these average non-climbers so much more. Now that I'm ignoring the climbing women, my dates are so much better!!!

So as a dedicated climber who will never ever stop, for me, I want a non-climber (I'll probably see a total hottie at the gym tomorrow and completely change my stance).

Though I find this thread just completly retarded id like to throw my $.02 cents in.

I find girls who don't do EVERYTHING i do much easier to talk to. THe fact that we share alot of things in common gives us common ground, but having differences (especially climbing) makes for an exciting relationship. My gf is not a climber, but a dancer and plays some wicked awesome piano. But she is trying to learn to climb just to know what its like and try to enjoy what i love. Likewise, I cannot carry a tune with a bucket, but i try my hardest to learn what she loves too.

Climbing isn't everything...

But pretty F^%*ing close!

Here's an idea... invite her to go climbing with you... it works like a champ... they fall in love with climbing first (don't get jelouse) and then they have to hang out with you because youre the only one they know who climbs... and things go from there ;) Works every time... also take up slacklining... that works like a champ!

Funny. I have surfed my whole life until I met my wife. She was a climber, and I got into climbing because she was a climber. Now I'm way into climbing and she's kind of "take it or leave it" since she's had our kid.

maybe you should start thinking of girls not a whole but as individuals themselves. not all girls will like rock climbing, but not all guys will either. you just have to find the right girl for you. just keep looking, and by the way, any girl that acts like someone who retared and dosent know anything and hates the outdoors.. well you should just ignore them and pass on by. go find a girl worth while.

Um, yeah....work every time.

In my experiance most girls will go climbing with you only because they want to spend time with you. Once they have you on the hook they stop being so "interested" in climbing and still want to spend as much time with you. Its a good way to kill your own climbing life.

Find a chick who's in to competitive triathalons, or mountain biking, or...or something that keeps them as busy as your climbing keeps you.

HA! you're trying to pick up girls by talking about climbing. You might as well talk about [insert boring topic here] and watch their eyes wander looking for someone else to talk too.

It doesn't work on ANY girl that doesn't climb.

I mean at least with girls that do climb you already have something in common, but even thenit is by no means a given.

To girls that don't climb, you are either crazy or boring. To the ones that do you are a dime a dozen cause tho its an increasing among women, a lot more males climb than females. So you better have something else going for you.

You've got it all wrong...Crotch Rockets are for pansies...Dirt bikes are where it's at!Cool

That being said, about 90% of my relationships have been with climbers. I like climbers 'cause they're fit and motivated about at least one thing.

I guess the same can be said about other similar activities but so far climbing has proved the most convenient...Tongue

Do you climb just because you think its a good way to get girls?

Just get a few polo shirts, sweater, loafers, drink beer, watch football, and devolop a belly. In that order. Its what 98% of the girls go for or at least the ones that talk about themselves. Shallow! Climb hard, ballsy, and be yourself, the right girl will come around. Mine did and married her after a runout 70ft 5.8+ RX pitch.

I dont see your point. I am a climber AND ride a crotch rocket now the fact of the matter is I am who I am and if a girl doesnt like me then not my deal. I can always go climb or ride( riding to the crag and going climbing wins).
good luck on the chase
p.s. what type of girls are you after that arent interested in rock climbing sounds to me like if you get one and they arent interested in YOUR sport then to stay with them you will have to bail on climbing all together.

You have got to be kidding Laugh...or your just a kid...

I dont know what GIRLS like .. But women on the other hand want a MAN not a boy... and what you ride ,climb or otherwise is going to impress them enough to drop their panties ... Get real...
"If ya want in a girls panties act like thats the last thing you want"...

If a girl or a Woman thinks all you want is in her pants you can bet thats the LAST thing you going to get in ... Laugh
And trust me they can sense a lil boy drooling a mile away... and your done before you even get started ...

Eh, I don't know. I think Popeye and Olive Oil were gettin' in on offstage. That's why Brutus' acting was so realistic, because he was pissed.

But seriously, when I've gone on dates and girls have asked, "what do you do for fun," they seem interested when I tell them that I climb. Some are more interested than others. I have actually found it difficult to not talk about climbing sometimes, so I don't know where this whole "climbing is boring" thing is coming from. In fact, I try to not even bring it up at work because I know people (guys and girls) are always going to ask me about it. So I think the sport is interesting to people in general. I've never encountered someone who was totally dismissive.

In short, it must be your approach.

99.999% of the threads and posts on this site are trolls. If everyone responded by calling out a troll, the site would be much more boring than it actually is. And so....we pretend.

On the other hand....It's Frid DAY and in a few hours I'll be loading up my dog and gear and off to my first day of the season(here in NY; I already did my pre-season kickoff trip).

It's supposed to be 75 degrees and sunny - wooohooooooooo! YAY for climbing season!

Some folks dig dating climbers, and that's cool if it's your thing. Personally I think it's hard enough to find a good climbing partner. Trying to find a date that's also a good climbing partner? Good luck, and congratulations to those that have pulled this off. Personally I'm with Angry. I only date non-climbers who actually have hobbies.

You all have it wrong! It's so obvious to us women. There are only 2 things that we all look for...

1) Do you climb harder than me (God knows a man can't be seen with a woman who can flash their project and it's a bit embarrassing for us women to have to be the rope gun)

2) MONEY MONEY MONEY! Do you have enough money to buy me gear when I'm PMSing, put gas in our SUV's because women don't camp, and enough left over to take us out to fancy restuarants and buy us jewlery as little gifts for sending our latest projects?

YOU FAIL AT LIFE!

Crap, I hope my partner doesn't read this...

I'd echo these sentiments. By in large, I've found many climbers to have rather boring personalities. I've had far more interesting conversation (dates or otherwise) with non-climbers (or at least not very serious climbers). However, how interesting a girl's personality is seems to be inversely proportional to how much she cares to be in a relationship. Modern girls, I guess. Crazy

Do you mean this:

In slang an anorak is a person, typically a man, who has unfathomable interest in arcane, detailed information regarded as boring by the rest of the population, and who feels compelled to talk at length about this information to anyone within earshot.

In Britain, people who wear anoraks in their social life are often stereotyped as trainspotters or persons with unimaginative and dull pastimes/hobbies.

The closest American slang is perhaps nerd which is applied to bookish students. Anorak is not generally applied to students; and the anorak is more of a trivia-freak than an overly studious worker. A geek is a person typically expert at, and intensely focussed on, technical equipment, particularly computers; again this is not exactly an anorak — the anorak offers overly detailed discussion and arcane trivia on "hobbyist" topics.

without the c?

It has to do with someone positing the OP was trolling, which is a tangential topic within the thread. Keep up, dude! Girls like smart guys, y'know.

p.s. Volunteerism is good. Not always a great place to pick up dates....but sometimes one gives out apples and then oranges appear(meaning one gets connections and life skills through volunteerism that help them become a more interesting person. Which helps them pick up girls, or guys, depending on which they prefer).

Damn Straight.

I think that's the inherent problem with the OP, he's looking for girls. Whereas if he was looking for women, they would know exactly what they want, which is not bulging muscles, a vibrator with wheels, or money.

A real woman wants a dude with personality, confidence, humor, AND a vibrator on wheels.

Not rare, just real. But I'm definitely not surrounded by them, oh no! I'm surrounded by little girls in their little girl worlds, and I have to wade in this sea of immature behaviors to find the gems.....

But back to the OP: do girls know what they want: NO. Do you think that just being a climber will get you what you want: NO. Sack up and talk to them, don't wait for them to come to you.

There is only ONE reason why girls/women do not like climbers (and this holds true for ANY guy) and that is:

THEY ARE TOO FULL OF THEMSELVES!!!

here's a tip boys: at least pretend to be interested in HER, not just YOU getting laid.

But of course Zenelky is pretty much spot on:

2) MONEY MONEY MONEY! Do you have enough money to buy me gear when I'm PMSing, put gas in our SUV's because women don't camp, and enough left over to take us out to fancy restuarants and buy us jewlery as little gifts for sending our latest projects?

right you are! we are all full of ourselves to a certain extend, and I'll admit I have had to check myself on this very subject... There is a fine line between confidence (a MAJOR turn on) and Arrogance (turn off). true with any person, male or femal.

I'm going to ammend what I said before: the REAL trick to dating is to be yourself and learn to understand that if yourself is not enough for said person, then they are not the right person. There's where the confidence comes in. If you can't be yourself around a person, why bother spending time with them?

But I guess we need to first establish what it is the OP wants... a girlfriend or a summer fling? because all that about finding something in common and being yourself is not really valid for a casual fling.. THAT is all about how you look and how much she drinksWink

I appreciate the kind words. It has taken me years to gather and analyze enough data to be able to put together a report as comprehensive as it was. I would just like to reiterate that it is not a matter of opinion, but rather fact supported by hard, undeniable evidence. This approach WILL work 100% (one hundred percent, the maximum amount of percent) of the time if carried out precisely and in its entirety.

Getting a hold of a female is not the social science that everyone makes it out to be. It's a matter of calculated effort and targeted approach. Especially if you climb.

I hold seminars on the east coast, and can be contacted via PM for my services which are free of charge. I only ask for a ham sandwich buffet.

You can make them say "wow" with a large big bro, you can impress them on occasion with a big set of nuts "damn, you carry those around", but nothing gets them starry eyed and mouth agape in ecstasy like a man who knows how to wiggle in his gear with skill and efficiency on a long endurance route.

Responses I have gotten after telling girls that I climb:
"Oh..."
"Isnt that like dangerous or something?"
"Thats...interesting"
"Oh I love rock climbing! Ive climbed the second hardest wall at Six Flags!"

And my personal favorite-
"So does that mean you are like ripped or something?"

Seriously thoug0h- I have found that more often than not girls (climber or not) think it is cool that a guy climbs cause it is such a unique sport (much different from football, basketball, etc.) and it shows that we arent afraid to step outside the box a bit and try things that are a little different or arent considered "the norm"

Ladies, correct me if im wrong cause thats just my interpretation of it...or maybe all the girls I talk to just feel sorry for me Wink

Do girls not consider climbers to be badass enough to get with? I guarantee you that if I told a girl that I ride a crotch rocket they'd instantly become wet with anticipation. Anyone else experienced this sort of situation?

Laugh you made my day.

but on the other hand: i suck. i spend to much time on the interwebs. time to go climbing.

Laugh

oh, and something on topic:
I havent found climbing to be either positive or negative. if you talk about it, do it in such a way that you neither sound selfish, nor sound like climbing is somthig that you want to hide.

Now if i only would find the courage to talk to that nice girl i often see when bouldering ...

I couldn't agree more. Since you, sev, seem to be the expert here, I have a question for you.

I don't have a trad rack. Will a big, thick crash-pad full of crap suffice? I'm talking like 5 pairs of shoes, 2 chalk pots, a half dozen brushes, 2 and 1/2 rolls of tape, six-pack of PBR (tallboys of course), 2 red bulls, sandwiches, 1 and 1/2 packs of smokes, and a quarter of chronic.

Of course the shirtless climbing still applies; but do we get extra points with the ladies for wearing a beanie while climbing shirtless? Also, what is the limit on the number of pads and spotters under which the ladies will still flock?

YES extra points for the beanie while climbing shirtless!!!

As for the number of pads and spotters, there are variables to concider: one how high is the problem? two are all the spotters shirtless and wearing beanies as well?

Howver, I would be more impressed (personally) by the full trad rack than the crash pad full of stuff: however ClimbinBob is very right:

Climber guys are very loving, sharing, caring, and brutally honest. I know I turned on my regular climbing partner and his friends on when I was freezing my A** off outside, for I tough it out. He said most girls would have complain and go home. The other girl that was on this trip did that. I did complain, but so were the guys about the weather. This climbing trip was most memorable. Also the fact no one showered for 4 days. That was the other argument from the girl who left. The environment is harsh deal with it, but if I was asked out by a guy who thought climbing was lame or stupid, he would not get anywhere. "Hey lameO asked them girly girls out instead of me."

I have spent a considerable amount of time trying to decipher this message. I haven't gotten very far despite the time I invested in the endeavor. Maybe you can help by further explaining some of the more complex points that seem to be shooting straight over my head.

Take this sentence, for example: "Climber guys are very loving, sharing, caring, and brutally honest."

What I gather from this is that climber guys are dirty hippies who will say whatever needs to be said in order to secure a belay bitch for the day. Can you confirm/deny?

Next, I'm not quite sure what you're trying to say here: I know I turned on my regular climbing partner and his friends on when I was freezing my A** off outside, for I tough it out.

Your climbing partner wants to get in your tent (if you catch my drift) by complementing your ability to "tough it out" when the weather gets rough? Do you have any evidence to support this claim, or is it purely anecdotal? In other words, how do we know they were really turned on, and you weren't just misinterpreting what they were trying to say? Please clarify.

The following is where I start to lose grasp of the meaning of the entire message: I did complain, but so were the guys about the weather.

As per your own claims earlier in the message, you "tough it out." Do you tough it out, or do you complain? This seems contradictory, but I may just be missing the point, since the whole thing is so convoluted, I have a hard time understanding it. Do you have the ability to tough it out? This sentence certainly disagrees. Furthermore, the guys complained as well! We can go back and modify the original hypothesis of "climber guys are dirty hippies who will say whatever needs to be said in order to secure a belay bitch for the day" to include information about climber guys being pussies who complain as much as the token female.

Everything after that becomes a muddled mess. You go off on a tangent about not showering, and the environment. Then you come around and again assert that you are NOT a girly girl, but the sentence previously presented clearly disagrees with that. I, as I'm sure the rest of the community, would greatly appreciate it if you could provide some additional information that we can use to better understand your nonsensical drivel. In addition to that, could you tell us what it is, exactly, that you're trying to convey through your message?

Thanks for your time.

Sorry buddy, that ain't gonna fly. Girls like bling, and when it comes to climbing, it don't get much better than a glistening pile of shiny new camalots, (supplemented by some 1st or even 2nd generation camalots to prove you're not a noob.) Throw in some tricams, too, to show you're a complex guy.

Guys carrying mattresses 24/7 scream "I want sex," which, as has been mentioned, will startle your prey, and cause them to scurry. As they are to fish and racoons, the subtle shininess and noise-making qualities of a well-developed trad rack are quite appealing to a curious young lady, though not intimidating.

My advice-- drop the pads and start that rack off with a nice set of nuts.

I have to agree one hundred percent. I talk about climbing with my climbing friends but most of the non climbers guys and girls want to do the same which is understandable and people should share their knowledge and experience but I don't want to spend all my time at a top-rope crag teaching people how to pull their first 5.6 which is inevitably what they ask for when you speak of climbing.

In an attempt to save space on the information super highway, I will use this one post to answer both yours, and drunkenhighball's question. I will start with you:

Which points in particular did you find hard to understand? You have to let me know if you want me to elaborate on them. This is one of those help me help you situations.

On the subject of you being confused as to what the message is: I suggest you supplement your knowledge with a couple of books that I am about to recommend.

1. The Elements of Style by William Strunk. This will help you write better messages on the information super highway. This way, I don't have to pull out most of my hair while wrestling with your elementary writing skills.

2. Introduction to Logic by Harry Gensler coupled with Reading Comprehension Success in 20 Minutes a Day, 3rd Edition by LearningExpress Editors. These two books ought to enable you to read and comprehend a post on the information super highway, and not be totally baffled by the slightly complex nature of it.

When you complete your reading assignment, you can report back to me via private message, or in this thread. We can discuss the finer points further and in more detail if you wish, but only after you have read the aforementioned pieces of literature.

drunkenhighball:

I apologize for not seeing your message. I'm sorry to say that current research shows females favor route climbers over boulderers. Scientists are not sure why, but the numbers suggest that a route climber (particularly a grizzled trad vet) who follows the protocol outlined in a previous post has a 100% chance of acquiring a female. The same research shows that a boulderer (regardless of the size and content of the crash pad) has only about .14% chance. Those odds go up to about 1.2% if the boulderer is wearing a beanie (must be brand name beanie), and they increase still to 2% if the boulderer is in possession of some killer dank.

To summarize, you need to get yourself a Prana beanie and an ounce of killer Cali pot to maximize your chances as a boulderer. Keep in mind that you will still be way behind a trad climber. I suggest you invest in some proper gear.

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I saw this:

notapplicable wrote:

and I assumed you weren't understanding something I was trying to say. Surely you can understand my mistake, since you did say "points", yes? I can see that you did not bother reading the suggested literature, so I will try to clarify some things.

First, we need to look at the definition of a point. A quick look at dictionary.com provides us with this:

A significant, outstanding, or effective idea, argument, or suggestion

As you can see... well, apparently you have trouble seeing this, but take my word for it, I did not make any points in my post. I was simply trying to interpret the message, and I asked some questions to help me along.

Your latest question, however, makes the false assumption that I'm trying to do anything but gain further clarification of a message I can't quite understand. I would say that you're looking for the reason behind my message, rather than trying to understand the nonexistent points that I was not making. The only part of that post that can be construed as a point is the hypothetical theory that climbers are dirty hippies. Even then, that's simply my attempt at extrapolating some sort of coherent meaning from a seemingly random jumble of thoughts.

Does this make sense to you? You did not phrase your question right. You need to understand the subject matter before you can simply march in the middle of it and start asking questions, like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know what's going on.

I hope you can see things a little better now. Let me know if I need to explain anything further, I know how frustrating it can be to communicate by means as disconnected and emotionless as the information super highway. Sometimes you just can't get your meaning through.

Absolutely not, and I apologize if I gave you that impression. I was simply saying that if he wants to engage in meaningful discussion with me, that he should reinforce his writing and, more importantly, reading comprehension skills.

I am not the boss of the information super highway. But I am the authority on the subject of climbing having an effect on your social and love life. Everything I say on that particular subject is hard, undeniable fact, and should be taken at face value with absolutely no question.

Obviously your having trouble with this so I will rephrase.

Why you be big asshole for no good reason?

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. I saw this:

notapplicable wrote:
Maybe you can help me understand some of you more asinine points.

and I assumed you weren't understanding something I was trying to say.

This ^^^is awsome!

Ok so what I gather from this is that if I had used the word 'the' instead of 'your' in my hastily typed parody of your original post you would have understood that you were being an ass for no good reason.

Did it occur to you that english might not be her first language, how about illiteracy, or she may have been half way through a bottle when making that post and there is of course the possibility that the lightheaded delirium resulting from your moms mouth being full of her clit caused her to temporarily lose control of her keyboard.

Despite being a bit rambling Bat's post was easily interpretable but you couldnt let well enough alone. Now I have had to make 4 posts that I will never get back to try and find out why you thought it was necessary to whip you dick out and smack your self in the face with it in a public forum.

Thanks for that, thanks a friggin bunch.

You misunderstood... again. You made an error in your original message to me. It pertained to the word "points." You meant to use another word in its place, but were not adequately trained in your (presumably) native tongue's usage.

As far as Bat's nationality is concerned, perhaps she should find a forum which is primarily in her native language. Failing that, she could, at the very least, put more effort into her attempts to communicate her thoughts.

We should abort this debate immediately, and turn to the original subject, which is the direct relation between the amount of gear, and the amount of female attention one will receive. I need to point out, however, that no amount of shiny Camalots can help if you are as slow as you seem to be. Perhaps you shouldn't bother yourself with suggested reading, but rather get tested for possibility of trisomy 21.

One more thing. If my dick could reach my face, I would not bother myself with exhaustive research and data collection pertaining to females and how their attention relates to hobbies and hobby-related equipment.

Ok Ok enough of that. Being the preeminent scholar in your field I could use you input on one thing.

You are correct that I am hopeless with the ladies. It could be the skinny white boy factor, the double digit IQ or the generally ugly nature of my mug but I dont think a vast tangle of gear is going to be sufficient bait.

What I would like to know is will it help my chances any if the sum total of my gear is a pair of shoes and chalk bag? Clearly a great deal of spray will be needed to insure that people dont just think I am an impoverished boulderer but does soloing garner the attention of the female sex? Do my chances increase if I carry life insurance and make it commonly known that anyone willing to marry me will be the beneficiary?

Once you start bringing money into the picture, you are leaving my field of expertise. I deal exclusively (and I've reiterated this a couple of times so far, pay attention) with how climbing relates to one's amount of attention from females. The original question was not "Do girls like guys with potentially large life insurance proceeds." I now have a better understanding of your severe handicap when it comes to written information, so I'm willing to let this one slide.

However, I can offer some unqualified advice. For some reason I seriously doubt that you are able to hold any sort of respectable job (I will cite your handicap, again). Therefore, I don't see how you can afford life insurance that will be of any significance to anyone who happens to be your beneficiary.

With that said, I would guess that it depends on the type of insurance you have. Whole life, universal, term, accidental death? There are many different kinds, you need to be more specific. There is most certainly a correlation between the quality of life insurance vs. the amount of female attention it garners (do you see a trend here?).

No, you shouldn't wake up, but rather get an education past middle school. I could find a 4th grader who is able to organize his thoughts better than you. I guarantee you will find your success with dirty hippies will go up if you're better able to discuss how tough you are when the going gets rough.

I am not the logic police. I am the grammar police. While we do belong to the same central governing body, we are two different branches. Also, I was unaware of Texas declaring sovereignty. Do you have any sources to back up this claim?

Bats wrote:

I did not attack anything. I simply wanted additional information to better understand the incoherent mass of words you're spewing out. I didn't think this was too much to ask, but apparently I was wrong.

Bats wrote:

Correct. Most dirty hippies are nice, kind and sweet. I will not object here. However, I am not a poser. What gave you that impression? I don't understand why you have to engage in these ad hominem tactics. I might not be as sweet as your dirty hippies, but I'm not evil either. Grammar police have feelings too.

I apologize for bringing financial motives into the picture, you are correct that it is off topic. Ultimately it is (as you so astutely observed) a nonissue due to my homeless and toothless nature. In fact I am typing this using pirated WiFi while seeking shelter from the rain in a dumpster behind the local Panara Bread.

Ok money aside, what a about the soloing? Please take pity on me as I am a homeless, one eyed, simpleton greatly in need of your advice.

No need to wait until your full awake, this place makes just as much sense while half drunk and half asleep as it does sober and alert. Dont disheart though, only 2/3rds of the people on here are misanthropic wastes of cyberspace. There really are a few folks on here who are both informative and amusing to talk to.

Stick around a bit, at the very least you may learn a tip or two that could keep this sport from killing you prematurely.Tongue

Depending on the D.C. v. Heller ruling, Montana may be in the position to succeed from the union also and I think them crazy fuckers may just do it. How great would that be?!?

"On Feb. 19, the Washington Times published a letter by Secretary of State Brad Johnson, who used his official title. In the letter, he stated that, if the U.S. Supreme Court upheld current D.C. law and declared gun ownership a collective right, the ruling would violate the contract made between our state and the federal government at the time of statehood. While Johnson didn’t specifically use the word “secede,” he laid the groundwork for readers to draw that conclusion."

I think something important is being forgotten here. If you go climbing with a non-climber lady-friend it is essential to make loud cries of pain while being lowered. This shows her just how huge your package is. This technique is often used in climbing gyms where the screams can be heard by more people. This can help to attract other women in case this one doesn't work out. It also has the side effect of intimidating other males. It should be noted that this technique will NOT work on the seasoned female climber.

being without you is like being a metric space in which exists a cauchy sequence that does not converge

i = Ø when i am not with you

my love for you is a monotonically increasing unbounded function

You are the solution to my homogeneous system of linear equations.

What's your favorite linear transformation?

Your beauty defies real and complex analysis.

i wish i were a derivative so i could lie tangent to your curves.

i'll take you to the limit as x approaches infinity.

Come on baby, let's off to a decimal place i know of and i'll take you to the limit.

let's take each other to the limit to see if we converge

let me integrate our curves so that i can increase our volume

if i were a function you would be my asymptote - i always tend towards you.

your beauty cannot be spanned by a finite basis of vectors.

my love is like an exponential curve. it's unbounded

my love for you is like a fractal - it goes on forever.

my love for you is like the derivative of a concave up function because it is always increasing. we're going to assume this concave up function resembles x^2 so that slopes is actually increasing.

you and i add up better than a riemann sum

i hope you know set theory because i want to intersect and union you

you've got more curves than a triple integral

i wish i was your problem set, because then i'd be really hard, and you'd be doing me on the desk.

int[2x,x,10,13]?

i'm not being obtuse, but you're acute girl.

you fascinate me more than the fundamental theorem of calculus

And just one bit of TEXAS history...Texas was annexed through a hand-shake deal which under the laws of the Republic was not just. And TEXAS is the only state that can legally separate from the United States if it chooses so.

I do not agree with anything you say. The reason for this is that you have no idea what you're talking about, and while your ideas might seem like they somehow relate to each other, it is mostly nonsense.

Earlier in this discussion on the information super highway, I presented the Original Poster (referred to OP from here on out) with a fool-proof, 100% chance of success protocol. If the OP chooses to follow the protocol in great detail, he will succeed in acquiring a suitable female to mate and reproduce with. I thought that I had made my findings pretty clear, but apparently some people are having trouble grasping this very simple concept. It boils down to this:

A male climber's chance of bagging a female (climber or non, it makes absolutely no difference, as hard as that is to believe) is in direct proportion to the size of that climber's trad rack.

Sport climbing, bouldering, and even soloing (this is for you notapplicable) pale in comparison to trad climbing. Is this clear?

As far as I know, Texas is still one of the united states. I may be wrong, however, as this subject is not in my domain. Also you're stupid. And so is Hillary Clinton. Vote Obama.

EDIT:

I went back and perused some comments that I have missed. Specifically this one:

taydude wrote:
I think something important is being forgotten here. If you go climbing with a non-climber lady-friend it is essential to make loud cries of pain while being lowered. This shows her just how huge your package is. This technique is often used in climbing gyms where the screams can be heard by more people. This can help to attract other women in case this one doesn't work out. It also has the side effect of intimidating other males. It should be noted that this technique will NOT work on the seasoned female climber.

I do not have any evidence to support or discredit this claim, but in my personal opinion it seems brilliant. I honestly can't believe that someone of my intellect did not think of it first. Regardless, it is extremely promising and it definitely warrants further research. If taydude can provide us with more than just anecdotal evidence (perhaps a graph, or a data table), that would be great. I am interested to see what the data have to say.

Taydude, thank you for your contribution to this discussion on the information super highway. You are the shining beacon at the end of this dark tunnel through utter ignorance and stupidity. Assuming that the data agree with your hypothesis, I will immediately amend the original protocol to include this.

Actually, here in the US that would be a geek, not a nerd. And if they use the term otaku they are into anime and cosplay and are the geekiest of the geeky.

No, Earth: Above and Beyond slash writers are the geekiest of the geeky (especially if the writers are themselves straight). The otaku and cosplay cultures are almost mainstream at this point. Deeply horrifying (vis a vis Tron-Guy and every dude who dresses up as Sailor Moon) but disconcertingly mainstream.

On the contrary, epoch, the Bats/notapplicable/sev debate is exactly to the point: both notapplicable and sev are demonstrating different methods of getting into a girl’s pants (Bats). Bats’ “drivel” and her Texan “nationality” have marked her an easy target for the peculiar advances of notapplicable and sev’s overly—and might I add, unnecessarily (considering Bats’ manifested astuteness)—clever diatribe. Notapplicable is demonstrating “chivalry” (a word, which apparently has no meaning for Mr. Grammarian) by being protective of the vulnerable female, who has trouble defending herself from sev’s verbal rampage. Sev, on the other hand, has a different approach: he is attempting to woo the unsuspecting female with a display of his wits. Since some women seem to be drawn to witty, sarcastic, cynical men while some respond better to the chivalric types, I deem both approaches perfectly valid, albeit for different types of members of the fair sex. It occurs to me that if Bats’ “drivel” remained simply ignored, we all would have missed out on this important lesson in sociology. Thank you, Bats and gentlemen, for your contributions. Jolly well done!

To go back to the topic question... I think I'm speaking for every woman, when I say, YES, but only if they're showing off their colorful, shiny--and need I add--large racks and wearing beanie hats!

Beanie hats are for boulder bras. Skip those and go for the trad climbers with all that gear. Dating a climber who can boulder, sport & trad climb gives you the best of all parts of climbing, not to mention a boyfriend with a nice body....

I'm sorry, I did not read this all the way through, mainly because it seems as if the concept of a paragraph is foreign to you, but there were other reasons as well.

If I collected enough data to classify all the posters in this thread, I would have to lump you in with notapplicable under the heading "severe trouble with reading comprehension." You - just as he did - completely missed the point of my perfectly clear (though not as concise as they could have been) presentations on the topic at hand.

I attempted to illustrate the clear correlation between gear and the attention one will acquire from a female, which I later broke down into different sub-categories due to people inquiring about different climbing disciplines. Somewhere in the midst of the information transmission on the information super highway, Bats decided to assert her opinion. This is perfectly acceptable, because on the information super highway, anyone is entitled to an opinion, no matter how ludicrous it is. The only problem is that Bats communicated her thoughts in a manner closely resembling that of an autistic child (have you seen Mercury Rising?).

So, you see, that was the reason I asked Bats to clarify. I am unaware of any romantic interest notapplicable has for Bats (I didn't even know Bats was a female until he pointed it out) but he took offense for some reason. He then managed to demonstrate that his written communication skills are right on par with Bats. In fact, that may very well be why he took offense to my original post, I haven't thought of it from that perspective.

Also, overly and unnecessarily tend to go hand in hand, so there is a little bit of redundancy in your post. I suggest you go over it and see where you could have improved your efficiency in the delivery of information on the information super highway. I can give you a consultation in private, if you'd like.

Thank you for your time, dumbsocrates, and I hope you've learned something today.

It seems that you are having trouble understanding the subtleties of the English language: you have no concept of tone or semantics. And, what’s worse, you seem to assume they are foreign to others as well. No amount of explanation on your part will convince anyone that your tone was less than acerbic. Further, a quick look in the dictionary would have proven your accusation of redundancy flawed: the word “overly” means “excessively” and the word “unnecessarily” means “needlessly.” You can use an excessive number of posts to some twit's dubious statement (an activity of which we all are guilty on this forum); however, the excessive posts may be necessary to put your sorry, sarcastic ass in place. On the other hand, your discourteous comment was unnecessary and frankly counterproductive, especially given your obvious desire to get into Bats’ pants. I would strongly suggest a different strategy. You might try, "Hey! You know, I have a large rack (I would avoid mentioning your micro nuts) and look stunning in my beanie."

A beanie is certainly easier to acquire than tact. And being a girl, who can appreciate a tactful man with or without a beanie, I certainly consider you a more desirable rock climber. There’s just one thing I don’t understand: what kind of “a good Ol’ time” would I be having with you, Bats, and sev’s mom? That sounds a bit too kinky for my taste. I think you might be getting overly (although possibly not unnecessarily) ambitious there. Wink

I'm not sure I understand this part. The entire point of my exhaustive research is to argue the semantics of the word climbing. Unless you mean the more detailed semantics as it pertains to linguistics? In that case, I'm still confused as I'm quite familiar with both the Chomksyan philosophy, and the newer works of people such as Dr. Pinker. Perhaps you ought to elaborate on this part.

dumbsocrates wrote:

You're absolutely right. If you go back to the beginning of this thread, you'll see that I put forth a nice system for the Original Poster (OP) to follow. I suggest that he may have some luck with females if he subscribes to my approach. That was my first post. I did not try to sound any less than acerbic because I was simply reporting on new scientific findings. There is no need to sugar coat science, do you agree? Anyway, this is what happens:

Little while later, Bats decided to mash her fingers on the keyboard. I know I mentioned earlier in this post that I have a decent grasp on linguistics. However, this does not mean that I'm adept at interpreting all failed attempts at communication by people such as Bats and notapplicable. That kind of work requires a state certified teacher/instructor and is out of my realm of expertise. Because of this fact, I asked Bats to elaborate, preferably in a manner which is common to people above the age of 7.

Enter notapplicable. He immediately starts employing ad hominem attacks (and he hasn't let up, either) for no apparent reason. Still, I maintain that I'm not doing anything more than putting forth information that I've gathered about the topic at hand. I'm the only one still trying to keep the discussion on track. If you look back, all of my posts (save the original one addressing Bats) are trying to bring the focus back to females and climbing. This doesn't satisfy notapplicable, for he not only continues the personal attacks, but also brings my mother into the picture. For shame. I've refrained from any such immature tactics. That is what they do at high school debates.

After I've dealt with all of this, you come in. I'm not sure what you have against me, but you posit that my posts combined are nothing more than a clever ploy to get Bats into bed. This is ridiculous, but you are entitled to your opinion. In my rebuttal, I point out the topic of the original discussion (again, the only one trying to get back on topic) and explain why I made the comments I made.

dumbsocrates wrote:
Further, a quick look in the dictionary would have proven your accusation of redundancy flawed: the word “overly” means “excessively” and the word “unnecessarily” means “needlessly.” You can use an excessive number of posts to some twit's dubious statement (an activity of which we all are guilty on this forum); however, the excessive posts may be necessary to put your sorry, sarcastic ass in place. On the other hand, your discourteous comment was unnecessary and frankly counterproductive

Correct. However, being efficient means leaving out superfluous content in order to get your point across clearly and without much fuss. Your sentence would have had the same effect with only one adjective. But, it is semantics at this point.

It's been nice engaging in a discussion with you, dumbsocrates. You are much easier to talk to than notapplicable, even if you don't understand certain things as much as you think you do. I'd just like to ask you, as a favor, to please make use of the novel concept of paragraphs next time you decide to share your ideas on the information super highway.

How about we meet Sevs mom at Bats house and have us a good Ol' time.

Wink

I figure Sev's the kind of jackass only a mother could love so, if her "affections" were directed else where he might cry. Thats really what I was shooting for...man tears.

Oh and whats with the beanie fetish? I thought you figured out you dont like bouldering. Of course they do have those compactly muscled bodies which are, more often than not, sweaty and shirtless.

Much like this beastly devil

Perhaps we could swap him for Sev's mom?

And I'm quite sure that neither Saussure nor Derrida will tickle their fancy. As much as they make for fantastic readings for dorks such as you and me, the average rock climber posting/ reading posts on RC.com will have very little interest in them. Not to interrupt, but to summarize for everyone who doesn't take interest in communication studies and haven't read the likes of Mcluhan, Pinker, or LeBon, (I can name drop too), Sev is what is commonly known as a ARTSY.. and a hard core one at that.
There, now we can all get on with this wonderfully ridiculous thread..

Try not to laugh at me too hard but the following
senerio has happened to me at least three times...

I was walking up the trail to the first flatiron
when I crossed paths with the most incredible
blond swiss goddess you could imagine. We
talked a bit and she was interested in climbing.

She says "I suuuure would like someone to teach
me how"...I responded in the almost exact way Jim Carry did in the movie dumb and dumber with the swedish sunbathing team that needed some "oil boys" and said

"Duhh...I dunno but I'm sure der is lotsa climbers
in town (pointing at boulder) dat could teach you how"

What is "a ARTSY"? Is that an acronym? No offense, but you're no better than Bats at communicating on the information super highway. Looks like name dropping doesn't help in that department.

cool. my original message was to a climber asking why girls weren't impressed when he told them he was a climber. During my days of trying to impress I felt my abilities as a once hard climber would impress ANY woman much to my dismay. Wit and charm OR money depending on where you live will do much better with gaining the interests of a woman.

I compleatly agree with everything you said. I really only date climbers and I can't see myself with a guy who doesn't climb. I don't drool over 5.12 climbers at all, it's just that I climb pretty much every day I'm not at work. And since I'm a teacher, I have a lot of days off. Everything someone said about how climbers only climb and never have time for their significant others -- well, that applies to climber girls as well!! If I dated a guy who didn't climb, we would never see each other and the relationship would fizzle quickly. I don't date climbers because they're badass. I date climbers because there is nothing better than spending the day doing your favorite thing to do with your favorite person.

If someone told me they rode a crotch rocket, I'd move on and look for a guy with nice calloused hands and dirty finger nails -- cause that's the guy who's going to want to spend the summer going on a climbing road trip with me living out of camp grounds taking showers as we find them (or not!)

If you got into climbing as a means to meet girls -- you're in the wrong sport. But if you truely love climbing, find a girl who feels the same way, and you'll be golden. Of course you outnumber us, so you'll probably have to be a decent person as well as a climber to snag a climber chick! ;)
